The best budget gaming monitor just got cheaper. Dell has slashed the price of their G2722HS 27-in 1080p 165Hz gaming monitor to £129, but if you use the code BFUKG2722HS it gets even cheaper: just £116.10. That’s a small fraction of the original price of £239, and a great Black Friday discount on one of the best value gaming monitors in recent memory.
So: why is this IPS monitor worth considering? In short, this is now so cheap that it’s actually cheaper than many of the brand’s 1080p 75Hz and 1080p 60Hz monitors, which makes picking up the 165Hz option with FreeSync/G-Sync a no-brainer. The 27-inch span is also larger than most high refresh rate monitors at this price point, offering a larger screen that’s easier to view from a comfortable distance without getting unreasonably pixelated or gritty. And because it’s IPS, it actually works well for watching videos or creating content too, with good sRGB gamut coverage, wide viewing angles, and accurate color reproduction.
It’s also a particularly surprising pick given that it’s a Dell monitor, as the American company makes some of the best office and gaming models in the business and has done so for decades. Dell has certainly made some stinkers, but the overall level of quality, fit and finish and usability is extremely high across the brand, with good sturdy stands, simple yet attractive designs and reasonable specs for the money. So does the G2722HS, as the monitor gets extremely good reviews for these areas (and its overall quality) and is frankly much nicer than you’d ever expect for a brand new monitor at this price point.
In any case, I think this is a great deal, whether it’s for your first real high-refresh-rate gaming monitor or as a second screen that you’ll also enjoy taking to LAN parties. There are higher resolution, higher refresh rate and more advanced screens, but you’d be hard pressed to beat this level of quality just north of £100.
