Queensland coach Billy Slater has made just one change to the squad that was defeated by the Blues in Game Two of the 2022 Ampol State of Origin series, with Cowboys forward Tom Gilbert being called in to replace Felise Kaufusi.
Kaufusi, who scored Game Two’s first try and made 14 appearances for the Maroons since his 2018 Origin debut, is unavailable for family reasons.
Instead, Slater will turn to Cowboy’s young gun Jeremiah Nanai in the back row, with Gilbert ready to join Harry Grant, Jai Arrow and Patrick Carrigan on the bench.
Gilbert becomes the eighth player from Northern Queensland to be involved with Origin this year, with Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Valentine Holmes, Tom Dearden, Reuben Cotter and Nanai all on the Maroons squad for Game One, while Murray Taulagi joins the group joined when making its debut for game two.
Jordan McLean also joined New South Wales’ roster for Game Two and is expected to be included in the Blues’ roster for Game Three later today.
Billy Slater Talks Origin III Squads
Broncos supporter Thomas Flegler will remain in the wider squad as the 18th man, as will Titans forward Beau Fermor, while Roosters half Sam Walker will join the squad in jersey 22 as the Maroons look to close Game Three of the series at home for a sold-out Suncorp Stadium.
Storm five-eighth Cameron Munster has been named in the roster and is expected to play despite missing out on losing his game to the Sea Eagles with a shoulder injury.
