Netflix embarks on AAA gaming

Netflix is getting into the gaming business on a big budget as a new job listing indicates the streamer is looking for a game director for an upcoming AAA game on PC.

MobileGamer.biz saw the listing (on Netflix.com) as “one of the first generation of internally developed original games” for the company. The job is looking for someone with experience on “any FPS and/or third-person shooter games” and “extensive experience” in terms of creating live service games.

To date, Netflix has typically only released games on the mobile platform and mostly they have been casual titles. That’s what makes this release – which specifically calls PC and appears to be more action-oriented – different.

Additionally, Netflix may be planning to expand this world into a movie or TV series, as it calls for character creation and a story “worthy of a Netflix movie/TV series” and the game’s director should “help with the extension of the IP to other media”.

Netflix has made strides in the gaming space with the acquisitions of developers such as Night Schoo, Boss Fight Entertainment, and Next Games.
