Max Holloway praises Alexander Volkanovski after losing trilogy

As has always been the case when he came up short in combat, Max Holloway handles his trilogy fight against Alexander Volkanovski with the utmost class.

Holloway suffered a unanimous defeat to Volkanovski in Saturday’s co-headlining at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, falling to 0-3 in the trilogy as a result. The third fight was the least competitive of the series, bringing “Blessed” into a bloody affair.

However, instead of coming down on himself, Holloway lifted his opponent. Making his first comments since Sunday’s fight, he praised Volkanovski for his performance and labeled “The Great” the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the sport currently (via Twitter

I’m still 2-0 up on knockdowns for trilogy. You’ll probably need a fourth to fix this. 😂 Just play. Congratulations to my brother @alexvolkanovski. Go get that 55 band. You earned the shot. You are now the number 1 P4P.

To all the fans don’t cry for me Argentina. This is part of life. We have to rebuild and we will. I love you

Holloway offered no insight into the extent of the damage he sustained in the fight with Volkanovski, or what the next step in his own career might be after a disappointing end at UFC 276.
