If Hasim Rahman Jr. Friday afternoon wanted to prove a point, he did. Unfortunately, it probably wasn’t the point he hoped to make.
In light of the controversy over his canceled fight with Jake Paul, Rahman Jr. opted to hold his own weigh-in Friday at Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn to show he could earn £205 for his fight with Paul, which was scheduled to go. down Saturday before weight problems for Rahman Jr. led to the cancellation. Ultimately, Rahman Jr. the scales tipped 206.6 pounds, which would have qualified as a miss for the matchup’s weight of 205 pounds.
The video of the weigh-in of Rahman Jr. can be viewed below.
DePaul vs. Rahaman Jr. was initially booked for £200 as a substitute fight once visa problems prevented Paul’s original opponent, Tommy Fury, from entering the United States. The fight was then shifted to a 205-pound contest due to concerns over Rahman Jr.’s weight, before being scrapped entirely a week after the night of the fight when Rahman Jr.’s team. reportedly asked for a £215 concession. In a previous statement, Paul’s management team at Most Valuabale Promotions claimed that Rahman’s assurances regarding his ability to make weight were “not made in good faith.”

With Saturday even cancelled, there’s still no word on MVP’s plans for Paul (5-0 boxing, 4 KO’s) to return to the boxing ring.
On Thursday, officials at the scheduled venue for the fight, Madison Square Garden, pushed back on claims by UFC president Dana White and others that the Paul vs. Rahman Jr.’s fight ticket was canceled due to poor ticket sales, stating that the event “was expected to be in the top 10 most profitable boxing events at MSG in the past 15 years.”
“MVP have been great partners and we look forward to working with them again soon,” a representative from Madison Square Garden told MMA Fighting.
UPDATE: At least Paul seemed to be enjoying the latest turn of events.
