Amazon is coming Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series has a great pedigree to live up to than bringing author JRR Tolkien’s world to life. Warner Bros.’ Lord of the Rings movie trilogy directed by Peter Jackson in the mid-2000s, big looms over both the fantasy genre and this upcoming series in general. The show is said to be separate from those movies, although it was confirmed to be used years ago material from the movieswhatever That resources.

But Jackson recently shared: the Hollywood Reporter that he and writer-producer Fran Walsh – who wrote and produced the trilogy with… Jackson, and is also his partner – were at one point asked by Amazon about the possibility of being involved in the series. “I said, ‘That’s an impossible question to answer without seeing a script,'” Jackson recalled. With the ball in Amazon’s court, the megacorporation said they would send the episode scripts to the couple upon completion. But according to him, those scripts never came.

For their part, Amazon has provided their own statement to The Hollywood Reporter, which states:

β€œIn pursuit of the rights to our show, we were required to keep the series separate and separate from the movies. We have the utmost respect for Peter Jackson and The Lord of the Rings movies and are delighted that he is looking forward to watching The rings of power.”

Showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay are said to be fans of Jackson’s trilogy and would have tried to contact Jackson to fix things. however, the Tolkien Estateand especially Tolkien’s son Christopher, have made clear their distaste for Jackson’s film trilogy in the past and reportedly would not have wanted him involved in the series. Amazon issued a lot of money to get the rights of this show from the legacy, and even more to make the show a reality, so it makes sense that they should abide by the rules of the estate. It’s a shame Jackson can’t be there, but he’s still excited to see what the show will be like.

‘I’ll keep an eye on it. I’m not the kind of guy who wants to get angry,” Jackson said. All I look forward to is seeing it as a completely neutral viewer.”

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will be out on Amazon on September 2.
